We can see that in the society, there is a very high consumption index in the teenagers and that is affected by what companies make them think, by showing publicity and make the teen waste money in things that they do not need.
“We`ll buy a lot of clothes when we don´t need em” (Kanye West).
*The companies are using publicity that makes them appear in a higher class than other companies, for example “Pepsi” used publicity that criticizes “Coca- Cola” ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Gh61DRCT8A&hd=1 )
We can see that Pepsi is trying to make the teenagers consume Pepsi and not Coke.
*Other example could be “Televentas”, that wants to show that their products are very cheap and are better that the OTHER companies. They want to sell an idea that what they publicity shows is the best, using black and white images to show that the other products are very old, so the people decide to buy in “Televentas”.
Guys, good post. One can definitely see that you're aware of consumerism and the way it's affected (or controlled) by the popular media. After watching the pepsi vs. coca cola video, I started to think about the effects publicity and advertisement are having on our children...specially when we USE them in advertisements! I'm enraged, depressed, confused, simultaneously, amused. FYI (for your information) televentas are called infomercials. Good work
ReplyDeleteI really agree when they said advertizing campaigns make us, teenagers, buy a lot of thing we don’t need. This is because our desire and hunger for more and more let us to fall into the speculations about their products. I think we should look in a critical way to all advertisings and propagandas to have conscious decisions about what we buy or not.
ReplyDeleteFor teens being cool means having the latest issues and articles in the market , i agree with what this group says, advertising campaings make tenns but thing we don´t need, we are living on a world full of consumism . we have to be more conscious of what is happening
ReplyDeletePublicity encourage us teenagers to buy things we dont need, they convinced us that the product is the best and that they are really cheap. What these companies really want is to have our money even though what their say is just an exageration of an useless product.
ReplyDeleteI think there are lots of advertisements which are always influencing the consumers to buy different companies products, the decision of buying them is on us, there will be a constant fight between Pepsi and Coke but the final judge on which is better is on us.
