Climax (Lang. B)

What is a climax? Can it be defined as the most important part of the story? How about the most exhilirating? The most truthful, or revealing? Is it always clear? Tom Verde's "The Big Dance" has some amazing moments of climax. And it could be argued that there's more than one, if any! What the hell is a climax?

  2. First: the climax is the decisive moment in a novel or play.
Second:Yes we could say is the most revealing, exhilarating and truthful at the same time, but the most important fact, is how this decisive moments make realize the main characters and the reader of how, what and why they were pursuing the ¨something¨that brought him to this moment to then identify themselfs with a unique ideal.
Third:In case of the ¨The Big Dance¨the climax would the moment of how Bancroft was escaping the reality by hiding all the evidence plus getting drunk, so that's the decisive part in which it can be seen how the conflict will finish in a disastrous an uncontrollable solution or ending.
    Fourth: I expect points...
Fifth:I expect not having some ¨Mateos¨saying that I am a .........(you know what).

  5. Hahahaha! Sorry Carlita...
Anyway, I believe that the Climax may be applied in more than just stories. If one treid to think of the Climax, not of the story, but from Bancroft's existance, we could realize that the Climax is ussually like a turning point which symbolizes directly or indirectly the transition of phases in something.
For example, in the picture of the fight, that punch probably ended a round (or the fight)(or the other guy's life).
If I had to say which is the Climax in "The Big Dance", I would say... (thinking) that it starts at the precise moment where MElissa Mkwenderie, or whatever, dies. This continues towards the ending of the story when Bancroft is running away from the Gule Wa Mkulu or Nyau

  18. Lucho in my personal opinion, I would think that the climax is the most interesting and exciting part of a story! The part in which the reader is interested in reading more, where is the part where the reader says "that is the part" or something similar. But the climax not only happen in the books, also in real life in present, or a movie, game, fight, etc...
Lucho if you want an investigation into the climax here is:
"definition: climax is the point of greatest tension in a work of literature and the turning point in the action. In a plot line, he climax occurs after the rising action and before the falling action."

  19. Its a very interesting question: What the hell is climax!? Well, in my opinion, and from what i've learned from you (yeah, thank you very much) i could say that climax is the part of the story or movie that in a way could be the most important part because it could be explaining the past events, or getting to the main point of the whole idea of the story (or movie, book, or anything else): This is why its so important everywhere, because it is useful for any part of the story, and you could easyly find the climax when you know what it is and what it should be. Loo, im not sure which one could be the climax from "The Big Dance", so i cant help you with that; but i already told you what climax is so...Yeap, that all :)
