Where's Plath? (DP)

...After your brief introduction to Sylvia Plath, take a look at the following link: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americannovel/timeline/index.html, and place Plath under one, two, or more literary movements. You've been handed a poem and can find many of her works online. Which literary movement best fits Plath's voice? View the descriptions of the literary movements that span the timeline. Which seems like your favorite? If you were a writer (maybe you are), which movement would you write under? Why? Be well.

  2. Although she is or was categorize in the confessional movement in which i agree, from my point of view Silvia Plath is to existentialist, feminist, and the impact that the wars have gave her are huge, as one of her strongest themes is death, which by the way "she does exceptionally well"or THATS WHAT SHE SAID...

  3. that quote vibrates!!!! i've always loved the word frail...just never really use it...but i respect it lots....and plath's confessional, dark style fits her under the big umbrella of post-modernism...remember there are hierarchies to literary movements...the big ones for example would be victorian, modernist, post-modernist....and yes, i agree, under that scope, plath would fit a movement of confession and self-reflection...check out james baldwin...he was a plath contemporary...lived a bit longer...great novelist...playwright and short story writer...anyone amazed by plath's dexterity as a writer?...her ability as a poet and novelist???

  5. Loui.... yes... as well as Giovanna said I also agree on the fact that she is undoubtedly a feminist... just as I told you on that very first "sylvia plath" class, but also i feel the love (with all it entails: hate, fear, chills, butter legs and flushing cheeks) it's all so... elegant to me... it's weird cuz it happens that sometimes a writer does not entirely fit with the style used at the moment... or the movement of trend or... whatever it might be called u know? she's so delicate and glamurous but yet... her words are crazy deep and profound... it strikes me... it shocks me and every line to that single poem I read and all those quotes where simply astonishing...I felt literal shivers.... i get the feeling she will be absolutley delighfull to read...... I wish i could write more like her
